If you are wondering what you should be doing as a new beekeeper in any particular month have a look at http://beekeepers.amazingbees.com.au/beekeeping-calendar.html

This calendar is extremely useful and is based in Melbourne, rather than the usual Northern hemisphere versions.  For August, it suggests the following:

Check hives only from outside, keep entrance clear of grass, weeds and other obstacles.

Prepare boxes, frames and equipment for next season.
When weather permits, inspect hives for health issues and for queen cells to prevent swarming.

We shall be discussing more about Spring preparation at today’s meeting, 3-4.30pm at Woodend Neighbourhood House.
